My Solidworks class team decided to model a road bicycle for our final project. My role was to build the crank assembly complete with pedals, chainring, spindle, and hardware.
The most challenging part turned out to be the chain ring. I used a formula for calculating chain tooth geometry to create the shape in Illustrator, then imported it to SolidWorks to finish. The final deliverables included parts, assemblies of parts, and drawings for each part and assembly.
Also shown are a selection of five parts that were assigned as homework in the SolidWorks class. Students were provided with dimensions, angles, and relationships between features of each part, and were required to submit finished 3D models with blueprint documentation.
