For the final project in the SolidWorks 2011 class, our team decided to model a road bicycle. My role was to build the crank assembly complete with pedals and chainring, which sounded straightforward until I started counting all of the components that would be needed.
The most challenging part was the chain ring. I used a chain tooth geometry formula from the web and drew the shape in Illustrator, then imported it to SolidWorks to finish. The final deliverables included parts, assemblies of parts, and drawings for each part and assembly. This was a really fun process, and I find having a complex project the most effective way to really learn how a program works.
